Applying to off-campus interview programs in NYC, but I do not have any ties to NYC. Family originally from northern Jersey, but that is it. I am still in the Mid-Atlantic region, and have frequently visited NYC and really want to be there. Should I not mention anything about location in my cover letters or should I try to spin my vacations or northern Jersey roots into NYC? Are there specific firms in NYC that care more about ties, so I should bid to ones who do not care as much? Anything I should emphasize instead?
Thanks

Your family is from the northeast and you spend a lot of time in the city seems sufficiently persuasive to me.

The major New York firms don't care that much about ties so long as you have some plausible reason why you want to be in NY (whether ties, practice or otherwise). They also tend to assume that everyone wants to be in NY.
