Boston Lawyers Group Job Fair 2014

Post by Yardbird » Mon Jun 30, 2014 3:59 pm

Since the registration deadline for BLG's job fair is next week, I thought it might be useful to start a thread to share info as things progress.

Feel free to (anonymously) post this info once preselects come out:
School:
Rank/GPA:
Ties to Boston?:
IP?:
URM/Other Minority?:
# of Pre-Selects:

Just a reminder, pre-select/lottery results are out on July 25. Anyone else going?

From the duplicate thread:

No, I was able to log on but I was never disabled out of my account, I could check even after the deadline.

hmmm...curious. I could have sworn they said they were disabling all accounts until today. Hopefully our accounts will be re-enabled in a few hours. Also, welcome to TLS.

Thanks! :)
I called them freaking out about that and they said it was probably just a glitch and that it should not be a problem. I was probably just the odd exception.

Did they say anything else? Maybe, about the timing?

I'm so nervous about the results. I'm a pretty good candidate on paper, but I forgot to do a cover letter...which I think is basically a necessity since I went to college and law school out-of-state

I do have my summer internship on my resume (which is in Mass.) but other than that nothing shows my Boston ties. How fatal of a mistake do you guys think that was?

There were no cover letters for BLG, just resume + transcript. So not a fatal mistake, but it'll look like weaker ties than you might otherwise have.

Oh that's good to know, I thought that it was still possible even if optional. Hopefully they'll give me a shot to say I was born and raised here. *fingers intensely crossed*

no home Boston address or Boston area code cell phone number?

Also, I'm pretty sure they were only taking resumes/transcripts. I saw we could upload CLs and WSs but since we couldnt place any bids it would have been pointless and there was no guarantee BLG would accept them.

I figured it out! Back on topic: It's complicated because my parents sold their Boston home 2 years ago since my siblings and I all flew the coop (they retired down to FL). So I don't have a home here anymore. Though I did change my resume's "current address" to the one I'm living in for the summer so that is good. Also, no bonus points with my area code because I switched providers last year to save money and lost my 617 number.

So no word for anyone so far I take it? Except for that one person who was able to get into their account?

My account is also disabled, but I have gotten a couple of emails from firms about filling out diversity paper work. Do interview requests come via email or do I have to figure out how to be able to log back in?

I'm pretty sure that BLG will email any selected applicants to notify them that their symmplicity accounts are back up and that the schedules are posted there. I don't think there is anything we do to re-activate our accounts. My account has also been disabled and I have not been notified via email of anything yet.

Sorry for the delay. She said I should expect to hear Monday at the latest so anytime from today to Monday I think.

Ugh not until Monday! The suspense is killing me already- My work productivity today has been terrible due to it.

Lame sauce. The BLG website FAQ and student timeline said today

[Edit] Actually, they can't really wait until Monday! That would be 4 days before the job fair and people will need to make/cancel travel plans accordingly - they'd be seriously screwing over people who aren't selected for interviews who already made travel plans.

Just FYI to all, the timeline says Monday is when non-selected applicants are e-mailed. So saying Monday at the latest doesn't preclude selections from going out today.

Nah. Can you still log into simplicity or did they "fix" that?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
