Massmail Question

Post by FSK » Mon Jun 30, 2014 12:43 pm

Couldn't find a straight answer in search, so made a new topic.

How many offices of the same firm should you mass mail, if you'd be happy at any of them? What if they're coming to your oci, but only for some offices? Does it change if you bid on them?

This question is never answered. When I searched similar subjects, its just unaswered posts. Is there no answer?

Well it depends on the firm.

Some firms are explicitly okay with mass mailing multiple offices but you better have a good reason why you want 2 or more locations.

But the general rule is that you mass mail only to 1 office. Now, I'm sure if things get tough and you start running out of firms to mass mail, wth go ahead and send a letter to the other office. But your general mantra should be going forward to mail only to 1 office.

As for the OCI and office, I don't have any particular information but my thoughts on the matter are this: if the firm took the time to pay to come to your firm but didn't list a certain location, then maybe that's because they might not need as many SA positions for that office or that they don't hire people from your school for that particular office (for whatever reason).

I was a little surprised for example, when I saw a certain firm coming to OCI only for the LA office but not NY. When I looked up the attorneys who worked at the NY office though I saw that the firm was primarily composed of counsel and partners with maybe less than half a dozen associates whereas the LA office had more than 50 associates. Soooo.... moral of the story is there's always a reason.

Probably mass-mail only the office you want the most when you are mass-mailing pre-OCI. Should you strike out at OCI and then need to mass-mail, contact every office in every city you may want to work.
