1L SAs first-half offers

Post by Anonymous User » Thu Jun 19, 2014 11:39 am

Can anyone tell me what the general timeline is if you get an offer to return from a first-half 1L SA (think Texas and other southern markets)? I'm wondering if firms usually give you enough time to do OCI before the offer expires.

ETA: fwiw, the firm in at first half gives offers within a week of your final day.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. 1L first-half SA in Texas. I'd like to do OCI and then give the firm a response if I get offered.

In a related question, what do we tell firms at OCI if we get an offer from our 1L firm to return 2L summer for a few weeks? I've heard such splitting is acceptable but I don't know how to approach it.

I'd probably just say you have an offer to return and leave it at that. Wouldn't approach splitting until you have an offer (unless it's a 6 week firm).

Isn't it NALP guidelines that 1Ls have until November to respond to offers?

Don't think my firm is NALP. Used to be but isn't on the directory any more.

I faced that situation last year and my firm kept the offer open post OCI no problem. All they said was to let them know as soon as I could because it would impact their OCI 2L hiring. But it was a "please be nice and tell us asap" not "we need an answer by X date."
