Heres the situation: Just graduated, still looking for a job. I worked in an extremely niche area of law at a mid sized firm for about a year during law school with the expectation of a job, but business suddenly tanked and I got no-offered. I interviewed with a fed government agency that does exactly that type of work about 2 months ago, and they told me I would hear by June/July. It was probably the best interview of my life, and a partner I was friendly with from the firm knew one of my interviewers (who is very high up in the agency) and called her to recommend me. Basically, I am totally on edge because not only is this my best chance at a job, but I actually really like this field and would love to work for the agency.
Just for my own sanity, I want to follow up with the recruiting contact (not sure if she's an actual recruiter, but she did set up the interview). Do you see any problems with this, and do you think it would yield any useful information? Not sure if she would realistically have any projection on when I would hear, and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my chances.

Currently work as government attorney. Don't see any way in which it would hurt to follow up, and it might even be useful for expressing continued interest. Doubt you will find out much information though, since much government hiring comes down to whether the department has enough FTEs at the moment or when they will rather than if the people interviewing you like you (assuming they do).
