CCN JD/MBA bidlist
I am a rising 3rd (of 4) year at CCN. I did EIW last cycle and struck out due to poor interviewing. I was probably top 60% last year and am now probably top 40-45% - though I don't know if grade increases matter much in this context (though I did get some really good grades in corporate classes). I mostly want transactional (hence the JD/MBA), though I would be cool with business litigation. I am working at a small firm this summer but it's mostly litigation work and not corporate-based. THANKS!

I don't get how the rhyme relates to CNN JD/MBA.Desert Fox wrote:CCN JD/MBA

Re: CCN JD/MBA bidlist
Although it was kind of an unnecessary post, I think this poster is referring to the fact that Columbia has a three year jd/mba program, so op probably doesn't go there since he's in a 4 year program. If that's not it then I have no idea what he's talking about.lonerider wrote:I don't get how the rhyme relates to CNN JD/MBA.Desert Fox wrote:CCN JD/MBA

Re: CCN JD/MBA bidlist
I think he's referring to the NYU JD/MBA not being of quite the same caliber as the CLS/CBS JD/MBA or Uchi/Booth JD/MBA. This is mostly true as Stern is not on the same level as CBS or Booth.

Re: CCN JD/MBA bidlist
Maybe, but it's kind of splitting hairs in that the JD/MBA-ers at NYU place pretty well at the top firms and ibanks/consultancies. Kinda of a douchey, hijacking reply in any case to OP who was clearly just asking for advice.didntgo89072014 wrote:I think he's referring to the NYU JD/MBA not being of quite the same caliber as the CLS/CBS JD/MBA or Uchi/Booth JD/MBA. Re: CCN JD/MBA bidlist
I'll be more direct.
Booth / Columbia Business School / Stern
One of these don't match the other two.
That part was a bit of a joke, but my real advice was that he should worry about being a shit tier interviewer instead of bid lists.

Also K&E loves JD/MBA's from Northwestern, but I bet CBS and Booth are treated similarly.

Work on your interviewing. If you have work experience good enough to get you on MBA program, it is probably either bad luck or interviewing that is hurting you. Maybe even consider paying for some coaching.

Re: CCN JD/MBA bidlist
I might consider moving up some less-selective firms earlier. As it is, a good number of your first ten or twenty bids are on firms that are relatively selective (3.4+ firms or those close to that line), and the back of your list is loaded with less selective firms that have few interview slots that you might not get that low. Considering that you've struck out once already, it might make sense to be risk-adverse and concentrate on firms that are looking for fit (and especially focus on those firms where you can spin a good narrative) and less focused on grades.

I know some people mention that it's sometimes better to put some firms that have a ton of slots/SAs rather than a less selective firm with like 5 SA positions, so what do you think I should do about firms like: Ropes, White & Case, Freshfields, Shearman, Weil, Jones Day? Right now, the only firms on there in the higher grade ranges are K&E (which likes JD/MBAs), PW (which supposedly may dip below their standards for corporate-focused people), and Milbank (which I've heard is a little less selective than some of the others listed)
Thanks

Don't want to get too specific since I'm probably outed already anyway but yeah, I have a connection to Chicago that would probably count as a "tie"nsideirish wrote:What's with the Chicago firms in there? Any connections to Chicago?

OP - I'm a JD/MBA at CCN. I went through this already. PM me if you want to discuss. There's some strategy to this. Some firms won't want to touch you at all if you're not in your last summer before graduation.
