Below Median @ CCN, bidding strategy?
Below median (Bottom 40-45%?), K-JD, only part-time work experience, strong ties to SF/SV, weak ties to NYC, weak tech background (part-time job, no degree).
Any suggestions for firms I should bid on for SF/SV? Any suggestions for NYC?

You won't get bay area**. From cls at least, every sf office is high majority or 100% stone+, or top 35%. And nyu is only worse odds.
LA is a lot less competitive if you would consider it .
The safest bet is to massmail all the CA firms but reserve your bids for less selective NYC. Seems like you've hovering just below median, so there are a decent selection of V50s open to you if you're a decent interviewer. Be conservative and target those firms with lower cutoffs (based on school provided data or otherwise).
**youcould get bay area, it just seems unlikely. Hustle this summer at job fairs in the bay, network and mass mail everything.

Agree with JBagel, with one caveat - SF and SV are different markets. Your chances in SF are weak. Decent in SV assuming the right characteristics (IP and/or interest in the type of corporate work the firm is currently doing). Mass mail ASAP.Anonymous User wrote:Below median (Bottom 40-45%?), K-JD, only part-time work experience, strong ties to SF/SV, weak ties to NYC, weak tech background (part-time job, no degree).

Jbagelboy, is v50 a possibility really with below median at nyu? I got a B in every single class this year. OCS said I am a strong interviewer, but I am extremely worried I will be unemployed.

Do you mind if I hijack, OP?
In a similar situation as OP (top 55-60%), except I am at MVP. Interested in transactional work. What are everyone's thoughts on reaching out to alums and mass mailing the transactional SV firms (WSGR, Cooley, etc.) that come to OCI so I can save those bids for less selective NYC firms?
I can delete this if you want, OP.

That's way below median. You just have to get in front of as many firms as possible and hustle like hell to get that one offer. Don't worry about Vault rankings.Anonymous User wrote:Jbagelboy, is v50 a possibility really with below median at nyu? I got a B in every single class this year. The firms are just going to tell you to bid on them at OCI. I'm not sure how your school works, but perhaps the best bet is to try and sign up for additional interviews with firms you don't get slotted to interview with (if your school allows this). Firms generally do not respond well to mass mails if they are going to be attending your school for OCI. (I'm obviously not advocating against mass mailing in general, as I think everyone should. Just don't do it pre-OCI if a firm is coming to your school. Obviously after OCI you have nothing to lose if you didn't get an interview.)Anonymous User wrote:Do you mind if I hijack, OP?

Just to tag on here, TS knows best; Im guessing with truly straight Bs you have to target literally the least selective firms. You should be looking out into the NLJ350, not the top 50.Tiago Splitter wrote:That's way below median. Yea. "Below median" is a broad range. My comment was directed towards being 40-45th percentile, which is probably around 3.2 or so. At 3.0 you are very substantially below median, so different advice applies.JamMasterJ wrote:that's probably outside the top 85% FYI.Anonymous User wrote:Jbagelboy, is v50 a possibility really with below median at nyu? Great, thank you for the advice! Our school does allow us to sign up for additional interviews with firms we don't get slotted with. I can head in early on the morning they are conducting screeners and see if I can sign up for additional interviews.SLS_AMG wrote:The firms are just going to tell you to bid on them at OCI. Re: Below Median @ CCN, bidding strategy?
One thing to remember is that firms have smaller summer class sizes as you go down the V100. Probably a third of all SA jobs in NYC are at V10 firms. So if you're not too far below median, it's foolish not to apply to the V50 with big classes, because that's where the jobs are. I'm not sure what to do if you're near the bottom of the class, though.
