Starting early as 1st year associate?
Is this even possible? My SO has a job starting in NYC in july. So we have to move then. If I get an offer, I'm thinking of approaching the firm about moving up my start date. Is there any chance they will allow this? (big firm, big NYC office, ~V50 firm).

I know of people who started early, but they all took (and passed) the February bar. If you're taking the July bar, I highly doubt the firm will let you start before you even take the bar. Even if they did, it's a horrible idea to be working big law full time while studying for the bar especially in July.

Seems unlikely but can't hurt to ask. Unless you're REALLY strapped for cash, though, I would strongly advise you just to take the month or two off after the bar.

If you already had an offer your chances would be slim, but if you are saying is that you’re looking (and competing) for an offer. I’d venture to say that your request would likely take you out of the game. Plus. Aren’t you studying for the exam? Are you having to pay for Barbri and all the bar fees?Hutz_and_Goodman wrote:Is this even possible? My SO has a job starting in NYC in july. So we have to move then.
