Rising 3L, SA for the summer at a firm of 200 plus attorneys. I hope to secure an offer at the end of the summer, but I also know last year they did not have a 100% offer rate.
I've applied to some state S. Ct. clerkships. 2 Justices on one court have offered me an interview for next Monday. Travel is not feasible, and I would have to miss work.
However, they have given me a teleconference interview option, but need certain tech capabilities available (so not skype).
My firm has that technology.
I'm thinking about asking them if I could do the teleconference interview at the firm.
I feel like they would probably agree to it. But, I also feel like maybe I shouldn't be advertising that I am looking at other jobs, even clerkships. I would probably return to the firm over a clerkship offer, but my main priority is to have a job by the end of this summer.
Any thoughts? Probably need to tell my firm by tomorrow if I go through with this because the ct. wants to do a tech test for the teleconference.

I think it's okay to ask. Clerkships are not seen as a hostile job opportunity. Firms typically want their associates to do clerkships because it means they don't have to waste as much time and effort training you, and because it looks impressive on your firm profile.Anonymous User wrote:Rising 3L, SA for the summer at a firm of 200 plus attorneys. Yeah, you need to know what your firm's policy on clerkships is - they may encourage them.
