Chances at Patent Lit at V25?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Jun 04, 2014 6:02 pm

-BS in Engineering
-MS in Engineering (Cornell)
-International research fellowship
-1 year WE in tech consulting (Big-4)
-Patent Bar Registration
-Part-time JD (GW)

Plan to work in prosecution as a patent agent for 2 years while I finish my JD.

What kind of LS grades do I need to graduate with to be competitive? Top 30%? Top 20%?

V25 is an atrociously bad measuring patent lit quality.

This only kinda. The majority of the V25 suck at patent lit, but probably a majority of the 5 or 6 best patent lit (biglaw, not boutique) firms are in that range anyway.

Still looking at Chambers bands is a lot better than just relying on Vault rankings.

OP here, I understand that most of the V25 are not known for patent lit. Interested more in firms like Weill, Kirkland, WilmerHale and Ropes.

What kind of grades from GW are necessary to break into these firms with a strong technical background and experience in patent prosecution?

Lol, I had to Google "seppuku" to understand your comment.

To answer your question, no I'm not fixating on prestige, just wanted to get an idea of what type of grades are necessary for the most competitive firms. I've seen a lot of patent lit departments at these type of firms filled with associates with technical backgrounds (many graduated with honors and not high honors or highest honors) so I'm trying to determine if WE/technical background matters for patent lit recruitment.
