"I’m a 3rd year real estate associate at a v10 firm in one of NY/DC/Chi/SF/LA. One of the middling vault firms just offered me 5th year pay and class credit to come over, because they only hired litigators in the recession, and are buried in RE work now. What do you think? Has anyone ever heard of this? Will they really consider me for partnership 2 years early, like they’re claiming?"
anyone ever heard of gaining class year through a lateral? Forum

Yes, it has happened plenty of times. In my opinion the cons outweigh the pros, but candidates are typically starstruck by the possibility of an immediate raise.

1. You may not have the skills to do the work expected of youconn09 wrote:What are the cons?zweitbester wrote:Yes, it has happened plenty of times. In my opinion the cons outweigh the pros, but candidates are typically starstruck by the possibility of an immediate raise.
2. More of your time may have to be written down
3. You won't have time to develop/make significant progress on your business case for making partner
4. You won't have time to develop enough relationships within the firm to get the votes
