Inspiring Law School Commencement Speech

Post by LawStudent41412 » Wed May 21, 2014 6:37 pm

For all recent graduates that have found employment or specifically those that are still looking, this is a very inspirational video with an important message. Check it out!

Nothing against the speech, but this is essentially an advertisement. The YouTube video was posted by the speaker himself, and I would not be shocked if the post above was posted by the speaker, too.

I'm honestly not the speaker. Although you do have a valid point. If I were to upload my own commencement speech, I would do it anonymously.

Yeah.. pretty awkward that the commencement speaker posted that video himself. The basic message of the speech seemed to be that you should remain humble, earn respect through hard work, and not get caught up in what accolades you have and have not received. But then the speaker posts the speech, self-proclaims its greatness by stating that it is "powerful & inspirational," and lists his accolades/achievements under the video description. Sort of undermines the sincerity of the message.

I'm all for people trying to get out supportive messages to struggling law students/graduates, but I don't think this speech is high on the list of things that they need to hear.

If Charlie Day doesn't show up, I doubt they'll remember it.
Honestly, WTF was at mine? Was I even there? I don't F'n know.

Or you could be really crafty and create a shell username of a fake law student. You could even call this fake poster "lawstudent47488." Such a mock account would likely, though have only two posts: one post to present the video and then a second to claim you're not the speaker.

It's not like the OP will be able to do anything with a degree from Hofstra, anyway.

For an inspiring commencement speech, I thought the speaker at NYU's Commencement--Sherrilyn Ifill, director of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund--was great, and had an important and powerful message. Obviously I am not her.

This is something that I've heard from several people: Student orgs (like moot courts) at TTTs go balls to the wall when compared to other schools (especially T14s). Perhaps this is because they have to distinguish themselves to actually find employment since good grades at their schools just won’t cut it, but it seems like the TTTs themselves realize this and promote the meaningless orgs over actual learning. For example, a couple of years ago, Barry kicked Harvard's ass in the ABA National Trial Competition, and made almost as big of a deal about it as Paul makes about his moot court credentials.
Well, the firm he's at has been seen on TruTV so it must've paid off.
