Awful 2L grades going into V100 2L summer clerkship
By awful I mean my 2L fall grades were C, B-, B, B+ at a T20 school where the median is B+. That trashed my GPA and my 1L GPA was borderline biglaw to begin with. Obviously spring grades haven't come out yet, but I am hopeful that I did (a lot) better.
My fall grades were so bad I received written warning from the firm telling me to keep my grades up. It is hard to not go into this clerkship with the sense that everyone there already views me as damaged goods. I know I need to exude confidence, do the best work I can, and not fret about something in the past that I can't change, but I am in need of some encouragement.
(Do you think the partners that have been assigned to mentor me know about my grades, or would they only have seen my post-1L resume?)

They asked you for your transcript after fall semester?

You might be fucked but you can't change your grades now so just work like your life depends on it.

I was wondering about this too. My firm didn't ask for mine and I've gotten the sense that most really don't.Danger Zone wrote:They asked you for your transcript after fall semester?

OP. Looks like my firm is the weird one because all 30 or 40 of us had to submit fall transcripts. That really unnerved me. I had a shitty finals week in the fall (gf breakup and computer problems during an exam) so those bad grades stick out like a sore thumb given my other credentials. But like all of you have said, there is nothing I can do except work hard and do my best this summer.

Fuck man, that would make anyone antsy. The good news is that conventional wisdom here is that your work product over the summer is far more important than your 2L grades. I'll come back in August and let you know if that's true.

Texas split and both firms requested fall transcripts prior to starting

OP here. An update: I got my spring grades back today. They were much better, thank goodness, and were enough to pull my 2L GPA to within a couple hundredths of my 1L GPA. The firm can't no-offer me due to grades now, can they? Has a V100 firm (besides Gibson Dunn) ever no-offered a 2L SA because they failed to improve on their mediocre 1L grades?

I mean, firm does what firm wants, but it sounds to me like you're fine (fine in the sense that if they want to no offer you, it won't be because of grades).

Grades are an excuse, not a reason, for not giving an offer. Someone who does stellar work isn't going to get dinged because of grades.Anonymous User wrote:OP here. Gibson has no-offered because of that?

Haha, no I don't think so. It was a joking reference to a long-standing meme on TLS about the supposed grade-sensitiveness of GD.mvp99 wrote:Gibson has no-offered because of that?
