How do people pay for their bar trip?
K-JD, biglaw in September, almost broke now. I can get $3,000 advanced by my firm, but that won't take me very far.
Can I afford a bar trip? How? Is credit card debt the credited response, or should I walk into a bank and try to get more favorable terms on a short-term loan?

I took out a loan to where interest will not begin accuring until October. That way I can hold on to my stipend for awhile.

I've also heard of people taking out payday loans to finance their bar trips, which seems like a laughably bad idea. Personally, I'm not going on one; I just can't justify spending a few weeks in Europe when I'm already in six figures of debt.

You need some vacation, whatever it may be.beachbum wrote:I've also heard of people taking out payday loans to finance their bar trips, which seems like a laughably bad idea. You can't go into the practice without a refreshed body and mind. It is uncertain that you will have any kind of vacation during your first or second year. It is certain that you will not be able to take a 4-wk vacation or even a 2-wk one after you start working.

Oh, I'm taking plenty of time off to relax. I'm just not doing it in Europe or Bora Bora or Peru.truevines wrote:You need some vacation, whatever it may be.beachbum wrote:I've also heard of people taking out payday loans to finance their bar trips, which seems like a laughably bad idea. Borrow more your 3L year and ration it is the best way, but, too late for that.
Actually, "rich parents" is the best way, and seems to be the most popular way from my observations.
I wouldn't take this opportunity to rack up a lot of credit card debt but to each his own I guess. Otherwise, go camping or something...? You can do shit on $3k, you just can't jet around Europe.

Do people actually take out less loans 3L year or did you blow all of your 2L summer funds already? Seems like those could be stashed for bar trip(s).

Truly a wonder that the bar trip is still a staple in the world of $200k student loans.
