What happens if I graduate with JD in October?

Post by Anonymous User » Tue May 13, 2014 4:03 am

I'm facing an issue that I may not be able to complete the writing credits for my JD before graduation in a week. If I do not, then my graduation date would be October. I would still do the May ceremony, and as long as I finished my writing credits before June 1 I can still take the NY bar. I have an offer from a NY firm. Does anyone know what the adverse consequences of an October graduation are? Is it just a bad mark? Could it kill my offer, even though I've completed classes and passed the bar? Should I aim for a start date in October?

What I meant to say is that the degree will be conferred in October. Does anyone know if is bad? This is urgent, I'd appreciate any insight.

1. It probably doesn't matter at all since the JD is worthless until you're admitted anyway.
2. But ask your firm.
3. I'd still just try hard to finish the writing credit now. Shit something out and graduate.

You should talk to your employer. I think the important think is that you are a licensed attorney (or law clerk b/c of NY Bar) by November so you can come in with the rest of your class.
