Have I killed my offer chances?
Ugh. So I need some honest opinions. I go to a tier 4 and got really good grades 1L (3.5 on a 2.7 curve) which put me right around the top 5%. I was able to get 2 SA positions and was very excited. My fall 2L I had a judicial internship and law journal which were both pass fail but my other 2 classes I got B's. I was ready for a big rebound in the spring and things were going swimmingly. I was selected editor in chief, was published and heading into my SA with a head of steam. Then I started getting spring grades back and so far 2B's and a B+. Worst case scenario I end up with a 3.1 for the semester and a 3.37 cum (still top 10%). It seems I focused a bit too much on journal. I just started my SA with a fairly reputable (100+ attorney) Midwest firm and to my horror they want a new transcript at the end of the internship. Sadly, this isn't one of those 100% offer rate firms and they have 4 interns for "2 or 3" positions. So the question is, did I basically kill my chances?

If I told you it did, are you planning on cutting your losses and quit?
At this point there's nothing you can do except work hard, make the most of the summer and hope for the best.

Why are you wasting your own and everybody elses time with this question? You have an offer at a mid-size firm coming out of a Tier 4. Yes, they want to see your transcript, but unless you straight failed or had straight C's, you aint losing the job because of your grades. They will most likely know during your exit interview what happened and you should have an answer, but your main focus should be getting to know EVERYONE on the hiring comittee and trying to get assignments from them and doing a good job. You should also do great work on all your projects and show the firm that you have the potential to be a Partner. If you do this, then your grades won't matter.

I doubt many people are going to have experience with how a possibly idiosyncratic mid-size firm would treat this, but LR EIC and Top 10% honestly sounds better to me than Top 5%. Reasonable people understand that being EIC is a crazy time commitment.

Who knows, do killer work over the summer and make it an easy decision for them.

Your work product >>>>>>> Your grades.

I understand why you're nervous, but I wouldn't worry. Grades matter very little, and my not matter at all, relative to your performance and personality over the summer.

If the grades dropped off a cliff that would be one thing but going from 5 to 10 is nbd
