Lateral hiring process and timeframe (have had 2 callbacks)

Post by Anonymous User » Mon May 12, 2014 5:53 pm

Hi - I am a second year who applied through a friend to a different firm in a similar but related practice group. I first came in and had a screener with a partner. Then I had a full blown 5 interview callback. Then I was invited to a different office, for 3 more interviews, with 2 people each. In total, 8 partners + counsels and associates interviewed me. In my opinion, they went really well, and I assume they liked me - why else put so much time and effort into interviewing me?

My question is, for anyone with experience in a similar situation (and I know it can vary greatly based on a wide range of factors) - any idea what the time frame for this is like? Do firms go through this process and then hold off for weeks or months? Or is such an intense interview schedule (this unfolded over 2 weeks; they got back to my initial application within 2-3 hours) indicative of a a desperate need for an associate and a very quick possible offer?

I know it varies entirely on the specifics, and I know there might not be any real useful rule of thumb here, but would be curious as to others' experiences. My gut is that they are looking to fill ASAP.
