Biglaw Background Check - UPM Citation
Just doing the background check for my SA now.
Will a unlawful possession of marijuana ticket from 8 years ago present any issues?
Do I even have to disclose it if the question asks about criminal convictions? This isn't technically a criminal conviction in this state, but rather a violation - which was resolved with a fine, but would probably show up on my record in some capacity (not sure though).
Better to disclose it just to be safe?
Am I worrying over nothing, or do some firms care about that type of thing?

Doubt it will be an issue. Disclose. They're mainly looking for people who have history of dishonesty: insider trading, embezzlement, etc. Since you will have access to confidential information.
This is a very minor criminal issue and is nearly a decade old. You don't need to stress over it.

just disclose, you'll be fine. I had a DUI and a possession of marijuana (which is a real misdemeanor in my state) and both occurred within the last 5 years. Firm didnt give a shit

Disclose. Usually the firm will tell you how far back the check will go. Mine was 5 years employment and 7 years criminal.

What exactly does the question ask? If this falls outside the question, you are crazy to disclose.

I donno, I'm sure they will result in a few questions being asked, etc, but I doubt it will preclude me from being admitted. They didn't happen super recently (one was 4 years ago, one was 3). And I don't have any other crimes, so I'm sure it will be fine but they will probably want to make sure i'm not a drug addict or something.Anonymous User wrote:will those two issues be a problem for c&f?Anonymous User wrote:just disclose, you'll be fine. Just curious since I'm in a similar situation now, was this background check before or after you had accepted an offer from the firm?

Got a dui this summer, right before accepting my offer. Disclosed it and the firm was very understanding and said they doubt it will be a problem. As a previous poster said, they are mainly looking for a history of dishonesty. Disclosing will only serve to reinforce an honest character
