Law firm interview conflicts with finals HELP!!!!!
I just got a call from a Biglaw firm that wanted me to come interview with them. But this week I have finals so I told them I wouldn't be able to interview until the end of my last final which is next Friday.
Did I do the right thing? I feel like I was just passed over for the SA position since I told them I couldn't come to interview this week.

Der, so what, you'll skip finals to interview? They'll understand you have final exams going on.

If you could have fit it in on a day w/ no finals you probably should have done that. Even interview prep plus a half day of interviews should be/have been manageable if you could budget your time well.
If it's done it's done though, just do the best you can.

OP here:
the woman I talked to sounded kind of pissed when I told her I couldn't come. She made it sound like she might be able to fit me in for an interview, but wasn't making any guarantees. I feel like I just got passed over for the position.

Doesn't seem like there's much you can do about it now
You've made your decision, and if you're a 1L, you probably made a reasonable one.
If you're a 2L or 3L without an OCI job, you would probably know by now that the job is priority and the exams don't mean squat anymore.
EDIT: Sorry wasn't supposed to be anonymous, don't know how to change that

If you're a 1L you'd have been a fool to go. If you're a 2L or 3L and still don't have employment, then by deciding your finals were more important, you basically announced to the firm that you're not intelligent enough to hire and they just dodged a bullet.

I assumed you're a 1L because Biglaw firms don't typically just call 2Ls for interviews for summer jobs, they use OCI. I'd agree with the others - if you are a 2L or 3L, you should have figured out how to make it work.NotMyRealName09 wrote:Der, so what, you'll skip finals to interview? OP here:
I am a 1L and the firm was in a city I really have no interest in, except that it does a lot of corporate work (DE) and it's relatively? close to where I go to school.
Apart from that, it was a firm I'd never heard of until they posted the position on the school job website

yeah, you made the right choice. 1L finals are definitely more important in this situationElston Gunn wrote:Don't worry about it then.Anonymous User wrote:OP here:

Revised. 1L summer job isn't very important. 1L grades are.Danger Zone wrote:You dun goofed. Butno reason to kick yourself now. Just do well on finals and hope they call again.

EDIT: Nevermind I thought your final directly conflicted with an interview. Yea you should have made time only because they'll be interviewing other people but I'm sure they wouldn't think "you're too dumb to hire" as someone previously suggested

Re: Law firm interview conflicts with finals HELP!!!!!
I think you're fine-depending on how you handled the call. If you freaked out or something at the thought of coming in during finals, then I'd say wth. But, if you were cool about it and let her know when you would be available, I don't see the problem. They called to schedule an interview. It wasn't a summons, so I don't get why she'd be pissed. Your 1L finals are way more important right now. Don't let this throw u off your game. After finals, I'd call them back and tell them you'd be available to come in anytime.

Also, the recruiter's annoyance might not have anything to do with your odds of getting hired. Partners might not care.
