Doing Informational Interviews While Working

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Apr 25, 2014 2:52 pm

I have an informational interview with a partner at another firm next week. I currently work at a boutique firm, doing practice area A, and partner does practice area B. The informational is for me to ask advice on how to realign my career trajectory to eventually move towards practice area B.

I'm a little concerned about having informational interviews like this because one of the partners at my firm is very well-connected in my major market, and I know how small the legal community can be/how word gets around. I don't want any of the partners at my firm to be thinking that I'm planning to jump ship for another practice area any time soon. In situations like these, what is the best way to approach? Do I try to keep the firm I'm working for a secret, if asked?
