Magistrate Judge Clerkship vs. In-House Law Clerk
I have a clerkship with a Magistrate Judge lined up for this summer and also an In-House Law Clerk position. My goal is to land a SA at a big law firm for 2L summer. What would be a better experience and what would look better for employers when interviewing in Fall OCI?

Neither one are going to be materially better than the other. Is the in-house position paid? I'd take that if so.Anonymous User wrote:I have a clerkship with a Magistrate Judge lined up for this summer and also an In-House Law Clerk position. For biglaw, it doesn't really matter. They just want to see that you did something your 1L summer other than sit around and watch Breaking Bad reruns. I'd go for the in-house, not only for potential of money but also because you'll likely do more things there that you would be expected to do at a biglaw firm during a summer associateship.

While we're at it, 0Ls should stop using COA. That refers to a federal appellate clerkship, not cost of attendance.Danger Zone wrote:Also can 1Ls please stop calling internships "clerkships"? Muddying the waters here.
In any event, to maintain on topic, here is your decision tree:
1. Is in-house position paid?
If yes --> accept
If no --> proceed to 2
2. Is one of the positions in the area which you want to work as a 2L and after garduation?
If yes --> accept that position
If both --> go to 3
If no --> go to 3
3. Pick whichever one you think is more interesting.
