when is 3L OCI?
when does 3L OCI occur? Does 3L OCI follow the same general schedule as 2L OCI, or does it occur later because firms are waiting to see if any of their SA's jump ship?

Re: when is 3L OCI?
At my school at least, it's the exact same time and place as 2L OCI. There is only 1 OCI, it's just mainly 2Ls that attend it, though some 3Ls do. There isn't a separate "3L OCI."Anonymous User wrote:when does 3L OCI occur? 3L jobs don't come from 3L OCI. If you rely on OCI, you will most likely be out of luck. Much of the v20 hires 3Ls, but won't be interviewing at OCI. Email their recruiting departments directly beginning around Aug. 1st, about a week or two before traditional OCI. Include a strong cover letter since that will be your only opportunity to make your case. Some firms will hold a phone screener, a few might invite you to interview while they are on campus, even if they do not have any 3L interviewing slots, and most will just schedule a call back straight away (hence the strong cover letter since it often replaces a screener--include that you received an offer from you r last firm and why you are interested in this firm/changing firms). Most importantly, the firms hiring tend to be at the top of the vault scale simply because the larger the firm, the less sensitive they are to overhiring. DPW, for example, with a summer class of 100 and a number of 3Ls running off to clerk, is more likely to be hiring 3Ls than a firm with a summer class of 25ish. That means that you either needed to have had the grades for those firms last year at 2L OCI, or better have had a big grade increase that justifies them taking you. If you make it to an interview, the first thing they'll ask you everywhere is whether you received an offer from your SA.ph14 wrote:At my school at least, it's the exact same time and place as 2L OCI. ETA: Interviews are scheduled all over the place, but more tend to happen at the end of 2L recruiting period. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have mailed a few weeks before OCI.

How 3Ls who were rejected at the 2L callback stage fare when reapplying as a 3L. Presumably one had the grades and it was a culture/fit issue. That most likely wouldn't disappear in a year.

Re: when is 3L OCI?
I actually had better luck with firms that I interviewed with the year before. In fact, I mentioned both in the cover letter and in the interviews that the firm had left a really great impression on me, which was a large factor in why I had reapplied.Anonymous User wrote:How 3Ls who were rejected at the 2L callback stage fare when reapplying as a 3L. Great post. Basically mirrors what I did last year and I made the jump from a V60 to V15.OutCold wrote:3L jobs don't come from 3L OCI. If you rely on OCI, you will most likely be out of luck. Same here. v100 --> v10. 3L OCI was useless.anon919 wrote:Great post. Basically mirrors what I did last year and I made the jump from a V60 to V15.OutCold wrote:3L jobs don't come from 3L OCI. Re: when is 3L OCI?
It's not totally worthless because it's a time when a lot of firms will be on campus and will be willing to meet with you. You're not likely to get anything out of the bidding process alone, but emailing HR before OCI while letting them know of your SA and offer should land you interviews during OCI with firms thinking of recruiting 3Ls.rad lulz wrote:3L OCI is effectively never bc it's worthless

Did any of you feel guilty about leaving your 2L summer firm?

Re: when is 3L OCI?
I'm not doing 3L OCI but I did leave my 1L summer firm after splitting between it and another firm 2L summer. I felt a little guilty but honestly you gotta do you. Focus on what's in your best interests and try not to be emotional about the place you used to work at (especially since the experience you had as an SA won't be anything like what you'll experience as an associate).Anonymous User wrote:Did any of you feel guilty about leaving your 2L summer firm?

Do you think your firm will feel guilty about no-offering, cold-offering, or laying you off?Anonymous User wrote:Did any of you feel guilty about leaving your 2L summer firm?

Re: when is 3L OCI?
Getting a job 3L year != 3L OCI. Plenty of people get jobs during 3L. Very few get jobs during 3L OCI.sparty99 wrote:I got a job 3L year. It's all about being positive and applying smartly.
