Undergrad Class Rank situtation

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Apr 14, 2014 9:33 pm

So, I graduated ranked #1 in my class from my large public undergrad with a 4.0 (probably tied with 1000 other people). The registrar's office used to print out these official looking forms that listed your rank and mine said 1/XXXXX. Like an idiot, I never saved any of these because I figured I could always get a fresh one if I needed it to apply for something. Well, being able to say I was #1 has seemed like it's given me a solid boost in 1L summer job hunting, and I noticed that Big Firms put #1 UG class ranks in the bios of Associates so I expect it'll provide some marginal boost there too (I need all the help I can get because debt).

So in preparation for mass mailing over the summer, I requested a bunch of those forms from my UG. They came in the mail today and it looks like they changed their system/policy. Instead of my class rank, I got a note that said "Big State U does not provide class rank." :|

Now what the hell do I do? Can I not tell my rank to potential employers anymore? They ranked when I graduated even if they don't now, but I don't feel comfortable not being able to provide documentation if someone requests it.

You graduated with 4.0 on a 4.0 point scale (assuming it wasn't/isn't possible to score above 4.0?) who wouldn't understand that places you #1 in your class? Can you get a copy of the Universities grading policy verifying that its not possible to receive a grade above 4.0? If so, in the very slim off chance someone bothers to check, you'll be fine. Moreover, if someone does inquire you can always just tell them they changed the policy. This is really not a big deal. Definitely don't make the mistake of leaving that gem off your resume.
