Are officer positions helpful in anyway at OCI (or in any other way) that justifies the time commitment?
I'm thinking about joining a journal. Would there be enough time to do both and is it recommended to run for a position if I'm planning on doing a journal?

Re: Officer positions
The general belief is that grades matter above all else, but officer positions would clearly demonstrate leadership and also a commitment/interest in whatever group you're an officer for (e.g., the intellectual property society, for example). I'd rank being part of a journal ahead of being an officer if you had to choose one, but that's my perspective. You may or may not have time for both, and only do both if you're sure your grades won't suffer.Anonymous User wrote:Are officer positions helpful in anyway at OCI (or in any other way) that justifies the time commitment?

Re: Officer positions
Officer positions do not matter at all, since interviewers know that most student organizations at most schools do not do much and officer positions almost always run uncontested. The only exception might be president positions of organizations so large and active that any interviewer would assume that the positions would be contested. Do not waste your time running for a position (even if uncontested) unless you are actually interested in that particular student organization, since nobody else would care.Anonymous User wrote:The general belief is that grades matter above all else, but officer positions would clearly demonstrate leadership and also a commitment/interest in whatever group you're an officer for (e.g., the intellectual property society, for example).
