not knowing whether you want transactional or litigation (especially post-SA, post clerkship) makes you a very unattractive candidate.

OP here. Thank you for the responses.

I will know whether I want transactional or litigation a few months into the clerkship.

I see a problem here. If you don't know what practice group you're interested in (let alone whether you'd prefer to be lit, or go through life as a tranny) how do you know if you're trading up?

Your V50 might be better than a V5 for certain practice groups (Hell, for certain practice groups, a V100 firm might be be better than a random v5). Forget the vault rankings. Figure out what you want to do first.

Coming off your clerkship, you will be attractive to firms, but outside of OCI they're not looking for any random lawyer. At this stage, they're looking to fill specific needs (i.e. they're hiring for a practice group, not for the firm in general) and if you don't fit that need, they'd rather take someone else who does have a strong interest (and possibly background) in that practice group.

Doesn't mean you can't be different things to different people, but, you've got to articulate why you're a good match for the need they're filling.
