Quick resume question on duration of a job position
I'm trying to lateral to another firm with only 1.5 years of experience. The firm I'm currently at is also where I summered. Would it be fair to put 2011-Present for the duration of my experience there if I split the description into an Associate and Summer Associate sections, wherein I put "2012-Present" next to the Associate heading and "Summer 2011" next to the Summer Associate heading? I was told to do this at the behest of a headhunter, but it just seems mildly underhanded to me. I guess I'm technically not lying about anything though. Thoughts?

If you are specifically listing when the SA and when the Associate job started, how is it being underhanded?Anonymous User wrote:I'm trying to lateral to another firm with only 1.5 years of experience. Why do you need to list 3 dates? Just list the two dates you have, one for associate and one for SA

OP here. That's what I had originally; the headhunter suggested I generally put 2011-Present to cover my entire length of experience with the firm and then be more specific next to the two respective positions to show that I have a bit more than just the 1.5 years out of law school.Jchance wrote:Why do you need to list 3 dates? Seems deceptive to me. You should say "Summer Associate at xxxxx" May 2011-Aug 2011, then "Associate at xxxx May 2012-Present."
If you just say "May 2011 through present" it suggests you were working there during lawschool. Thats not true.
