SERIOUS Q (what should I pay a TTT law clerk)
since the mods apparently don't like when I post this question with a sense of humor whatsoever, I ask you all great Lords of TLS. What should I pay at TTT part time law clerk? And will they be competent enough to do complex legal research, or should I pay slightly more for student from a better law school?

You pay what is appropriate in the market that you're in. Note, don't treat someone that you might hire worse just because they didn't go to a prestigious school. You're not any better than them.

Judge for yourself the individual's competency. How can you know if he will be able to do complex research based solely upon what institution he is attending? He could be smarter than the other student for all you know.

Around $15 an hour in a non-major city. That's what I get paid in a small city at a T1. TTT should get paid the same, pretty insulting that you have to ask this question.

I got $12/hr in a small city as a law clerk at a small office. It sucked but was better than being unpaid.

^ the one useful response so far.
I don't know why is insulting that I have to ask this question? I'm just trying to figure out what I have to pay to get my pick. Trust me, TTT law student shit isn't exactly made out of gold.

The problem with the question wasn't the attempt at humor, it was the implication that someone from a lower-ranked school isn't as capable as someone from a higher-ranked school. Since I know you're quite familiar with TLS, you should already know that lots of people attend lower ranked schools to graduate without debt, and plenty of students at lower-ranked schools transfer to higher-ranked schools and succeed in those settings. And paying someone based on what school they attended is definitely TTT. You pay whatever the market rate is for a law clerk in your market. None of us know what that is.
Asking the going rate for a law clerk for a [fill in employer characteristics here] would be fine. But that's not what you asked.
