1L SA vs. 2L SA
I was very much lucky enough to land a 1L summer associate position in a biglaw firm this summer in a east coast city. I'm sure firms differ, but generally, are 1L SAs given different assignments/tasks than 2L SAs? My goal this summer is to get a lot of exposure to as many practice groups as possible to narrow down a bit for 2L SA. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

My 1L SA didn't differentiate assignments. There was some lawyers who were pretty douche and said that they only wanted to work with a 2L, but that was the only difference.

During my 1L SA I had the exact same type of projects as the 2Ls. All of the attorneys treated us exactly the same. All the same social events, meet and greets, lunches/dinners, and mentorship opportunities.

I had very similar assignments my 1L and 2L summers. But, I did enjoy my 2L summer more . I was much more comfortable around the firm, and the attorneys treated me less like an intern and more like an associate.

You barely learn anything as a 2L. It's silly to treat you different.

My experience was nearly identical as a 1L and 2L. No difference whatsoever

Re: 1L SA vs. 2L SA
When I was interviewing I asked how much more valuable 2Ls were than 1Ls, and the partner I was talking with said there was no difference whatsoever in the quality of the work (unless the 2L in question had done a 1L SA, as well...in that case, they were about three weeks ahead of the 1Ls).
