Loyola Law School Alumni: Where are you now?
Law schools don't do much to keep track of where students are after graduation. Meanwhile, LLS's employment numbers at graduation and nine months are very poor. Current students are left wondering what to expect.
If you or someone you know is a member of the class of 2011, 2012, 2013, please let us know your story.
Thanks.

Re: Loyola Law School Alumni: Where are you now?
Loyola alumni are working here in Los Angeles and Orange County in large numbers. Where are they specifically? Everywhere ... working at large firms, small firms, solo firms, courts, corporations, government, public interest.
Loyola's employment stats have been objectively horrible, but I have seen many who were unemployed at our recent graduation who have since gotten decent attorney jobs. It seems like these stats will get a little better over the next few years, and I do keep hearing that the school has a good reputation here (not sure I believe it).

Re: Loyola Law School Alumni: Where are you now?
OP here. Thank-you for your response. Some people say things will turn around substantially for the class of 2015 and onward towards 2020--that things will reach an equilibrium. Do you think this is true? Do you think such a heavily-hit market (LA) will turn around enough to result in near complete employment out of LLS?Anonymous User wrote:Loyola alumni are working here in Los Angeles and Orange County in large numbers. I've met grads who currently work for Pillsbury, Kirkland & Ellis, Knobbe, etc. but those are far few in number comparing to their huge graduating classes. And I know people from top 20% to top-10 (by the number) at graduation who are still jobless after 9 months graduation. Take it FWIW.

Re: Loyola Law School Alumni: Where are you now?
So I currently am a 3L (about to graduate) from Loyola - I originally went to a T4 in San Diego and transferred to Loyola after my 1L year. I can offer some guidance on this topic.
First of all, i Have done 3 different law firm internships (two small and one medium) in LA, Orange County, and Santa Monica. What I will say is that ALL lawyers at those firms think very highly of the students coming out of Loyola. It has a good reputation in the legal community within OC/LA. The employment statistics are somewhat low, but you have to remember that Loyola has one of the largest class sizes in the nation - the past two years they have been reducing this in order to imporve job prospects. Many firms told me that they are apt to hire Loyola grads over other OC/LA schools because they have good graduating students who are well-rounded. Please understand, similiar to NORCAL, LA area has 5 top schools competeting for jobs - Pepperdine, USC, UCLA, Loyola, and Irvine (now). So you cannot go to Loyola and rank in the bottom 50% and expect to have a 80% job prospect coming out.
The school has also dropped in rankings the past few years (which is dissappointing), but that is due to the poor employment statistics of years past. The previous year and a hlaf the employment rates have gone up and like I stated above, the class sizes are shrinking which will help. Moreover, the bar rate has recently been good for the most part - we ranked 10% higher than the national average on the J2013 exam, which placed us only behind Stanford and UCLA.
Lastly, the view of Loyola from the San Diego area is great. I currently have a position waiting for me (paid clerkship with GOV) when I graduate. Although the SD legal community is very small, they do have interest in Loyola grads.
All in all, Loyola is a great school that has plenty of routes one can choose to pursue. But remember, like most schools, you have to go and be committed to both doing well and getting a job - you want receive handouts. Hope this helps.

LA has two good schools- UCLA and USC
The rest are dumpster fires (maybe not Irvine but that remains to be seen). Who cares what rando lawyers think? Those good thoughts don't get people jobs.
Loyola is closer to being a school that should be shut down than a "top" anything.
OP- please, please, please don't go to Loyola. Absent some extraordinary circumstances there are only 4 law schools in CA worth attending- Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, and USC

Yeah and wait a minute, what are the five "top schools" competing for jobs in Northern California?

Get you shit together, Loyola, unless you want to keep being the most popular school on ATL.

Sure, ranking is dropping, employment statistics are poor, but it is a "great" school because it "plenty of routes one can choose to pursue".Anonymous User wrote:So I currently am a 3L (about to graduate) from Loyola - I originally went to a T4 in San Diego and transferred to Loyola after my 1L year. And only two of those are worth paying for, if you really want to go down that road.BigZuck wrote:Absent some extraordinary circumstances there are only 4 law schools in CA worth attending- Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, and USC
Large schools often have artificially high reputation based on the sheer number of JDs they graduate: with that many alumni, and that many people who graduated at the top of their class, it's not surprising that a relatively large number of them are successful and have the sort of careers that reflect well on the school. When it comes to getting a job, on the other hand, this reputation means little since you're also competing against a huge number of students, so employers can still afford to be very selective.

Re: Loyola Law School Alumni: Where are you now?
Can any current student at LLS please pm me? I'm looking to swap some study materials (I have a lot of high-quality study materials from two other schools for every 1L classes using most casebooks and most upper level classes which I used to do well).
