LL.M in tax or Bankruptcy
LL.M in taxation from UF (-25k) or take a job representing creditors in bankruptcy proceedings (60k annually)?
Currently top 1/4 at a lower T1 (40-50). I do like tax and my coursework reflects this, but I'm open to other areas of law. I REALLY want to work for the federal government as a career, dream to be a AUSA one day. Crappy Political Sciences BA degree doesn't help me with the tax thing.

Even NYUs tax program doesn't get everyone a job. It's understandable you're interested in a particular practice area but there's a good chance you'll look back a year from now and wish you took the job. In this market go for the secure option.Anonymous User wrote:Really? I think its kind of close. A tax LLM program will always be there for you as an option. You can't say the same thing about a decent job.

I thought the LL.M would help me get a government gig. I was under the impression bankruptcy was shitlaw and assumed I wouldn't have good exit opportunities to get a federal job.

Re: LL.M in tax or Bankruptcy
Bankruptcy isn't shitlaw per say, although there are plenty of shitlaw bankruptcy shops. Same is true of tax. You might be more likely to get a federal job with a tax LLM than doing bankruptcy, but chances are if you're not already biglaw competitive the federal government isn't going to hire you anyway. A tax LLM generally doesn't make you competitive for federal jobs if you weren't there already.Anonymous User wrote:I thought the LL.M would help me get a government gig.
