Georgetown Tax Interview Program Results 2014

Post by law.school.2014 » Mon Mar 10, 2014 8:54 am

Hey guys, was wondering if any of you had started hearing back from firms after your TIP interviews. Good luck to everyone! I interviewed with 5 firms. I'll keep you posted on when I hear.

5 firms from NYC, 7 from DC, 4 firms from Calif, 2 firms from Chicago, and 2-3 firms from Houston/Dallas. Many of those firms were duplicates looking for several cities. Still yet to see if they are all hiring, but the turnout was decent. Pretty huge Big 4 presence throughout the country.

Davis Polk and Wilkie have made callbacks.

Thinking about NYU/GULC Tax LLM for next year.

I'm especially interested in those with undergrad accounting backgrounds or CPA, and those going for International Tax or Washington National Tax (at Big4). Thanks in Advance!

CPAs obviously have a huge advantage with Big 4 firms. WNT is a bit of a pipe dream. I don't know anyone that has secured that yet. I'm speaking from NYU perspective.

Also considering a Tax LLM at NYU. Question- is the LLM necessary if I want to do International tax? I have a classmate who just got an offer with International tax (non Big 4, but close) who does not have the Tax LLM. Just wondering if the LLM would give me any kind of advantage. Is international tax at Big 4 that different from international tax at a non-Big 4?

Intl tax is the same at Big 4 as a law firm for the most part. Your salary will be way different to start, and hours may be a little better at Big 4, but the work is the same. NYU gives you a chance to sit down in front of employers. If your school gave you that chance, you interviewed and struck out, NYU's program may not do much for you. If you would have no other way of meeting with Big 4 partners in intl tax groups, the program can do a lot for you. It's still a risk and a lot of debt, so it depends what your alternative options are for whether the degree is worth it.

Hey I think it's great that so many people are interested in the program but can we keep this thread to TIP results? Maybe start a new thread for advice on the different programs and job prospects. Thanks.

Considering big4 makes up a significant portion of TIP slots each year (and LLM hiring in general) there will be overlap ITT.

ReJection from KPMG. Radio silence from everywhere else. Does anyone know if any offers have actually gone out?

At least a significant portion of firm positions were EBEC.

Also, know of at least one Baker McKenzie DC callback being extended. Not sure of the specifics tho.

I've overheard 1 person getting an offer from KPMG - M&A.

Most others have traveled (or will be soon) for 2nd rounds.

Does the Big 4 do all callbacks/offers for all positions at the same time regardless of office?

Deloitte at least expressed their interest in a callback at the same time for all offices. However, it is up to the practice area and office to schedule it.
