US Dist. Ct. 1L INternship Offer

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Mar 03, 2014 3:21 pm

I have an interview with a US Dist. Ct. for a 1L internship position this week.

I am wondering if offers are made, is it something I have to accept/decline immediately?

The reason is I am very close to hearing back for a 1L SA position that I am rather optimistic about...

General consensus is you are supposed to accept. Before accepting, I would make it clear to the judge that you potentially have the other opportunity coming in soon for which you already interviewed. Make sure to ask if he/she is open to splitting. Be careful asking to wait and see what happens - the judge might rescind the offer instantly or the next day (this happened to a friend of mine). That looks bad for you and poor for the school. If it's a judge in an area where you will be working, you should be even more wary. Your reputation in the legal market could be hurt by turning down a judge.
