Lateraling from NYC firm to DC

Post by Anonymous User » Sat Mar 01, 2014 7:20 pm

Any DC folks have any advice with respect to lateraling into the DC market?

I'm currently a first year commercial lit associate with a NYC office of a V30 (think Ropes, Mayer, OMM, Akin--respected but not the very top of the NYC market) interested in making a move to DC ASAP. I graduated with pretty good (above median, below honors cutoffs) grades from a T10. I like my firm well enough, and I've had a pretty good experience so far, by biglaw standards, but I want to move to DC for personal reasons. I'd be interested in other biglaw shops or gov't positions.

Anyone done this? Have any advice about how to go about and do it? I know it's a tough market to break into.

Thanks.
