Law Clerk vs Associate Title at Large Law Firm
I've seen some folks labeled as Law Clerk, and I've seen people with similar backgrounds with the title of Associate. Both individuals did well at their respective T14 schools, and both are 1-2 years out.
They're at Skadden. Is there a difference in role? One of them recently changed her title on LinkedIn from Associate to Law Clerk.
Thanks

Those labeled as "Law Clerk" are not admitted to practice, because they have not taken/passed the bar exam, in their respective jurisdictions.

Some firms even call their Summer Associates "Summer Clerks" instead internally, even though the official title is Summer Associate.igo2northwestern wrote:light bulb. thanks

Also, they can still be labeled a Law Clerk until after they're officially admitted, even if they've already passed the bar exam.

Thanks for the responses. Just for clarification, there isn't a difference in salary for law clerk vs associate right--160 means 160, despite the billable rate difference?

Everyone is a law clerk until admission regardless of what they put on their LinkedIn page.
