DHS Honors 2014
There is a main government honors thread, but I thought I would start one specific to DHS. Not sure if anyone has heard about interviews yet, but my past supervisor was contacted yesterday for a reference so I know DHS is starting to make moves. If anyone has info to share- post it here!

Re: DHS Honors 2014
I have a phone interview with them this week. I'm not really sure what to expect. There seems to be very little information out there about DHS's honors program.

Initial poster here- got called today to do an interview this week as well. I'm not sure what they're looking for either. I think that they don't place us into components until they give out offers.

Initial poster- nothing since first round. I thought they said they would be doing second round interviews in mid-November, so maybe next week?

Any word about callback interviews? They told me we should hear by the third week of November; I'm not sure if that means this week or next week.

I haven't heard anything either. I was told mid-November so I'm starting to get anxious.Anonymous User wrote:Any word about callback interviews? They told me we should hear by the third week of November; I'm not sure if that means this week or next week.

I'm in the same boat. I remember my interviewer saying second round notifications would be in mid to late November.

I'm glad I am not the only one freaking out. I figured I should have heard from them by now because they would probably give people at least a week to book flights and they wouldn't want to interview the week of Thanksgiving.

New Poster, I had a first interview in late October, haven't heard anything on a second interview yet. Like everyone else I am getting nervous.
Has anyone heard anything yet?

I still haven't heard anything. Based on what my interviewer said and the responses here, I expect they'll notify people regarding second-round interviews sometime this week.Anonymous User wrote:New Poster, I had a first interview in late October, haven't heard anything on a second interview yet. Re: DHS Honors 2014
I got a call today to schedule an interview for next week or the first week of December. Apparently the person notifying candidates got the "pile" today, so it's possible that she does not have a chance to contact everyone today. Good luck!

Re: DHS Honors 2014
I was wondering how you guys applied for this opportunity and other government programs? Is it simply through the Presidential Management Fellows program or something different? Also, this is for post-graduate work or the summer before your 3L year?
I'd appreciate any adivce/tips/or helpful info!

Re: DHS Honors 2014
The Honors programs are for hiring entry-level attorneys in various federal agencies, so post-grad (generally - I think the occasional agency here or there calls their 2L summer program an honors program? Maybe if it's intended to earn you an offer for post-grad work at the end of the summer? But I'd say the most are for post-grad work). They're completely distinct from the PMF program, which is not intended to hire lawyers (and I saw someone here post that getting an attorney position out of PMF is supposed to be even harder/not possible any more, but I don't know anything about that personally).
You should ask your CSO for access to the Arizona handbook of government honors programs - it collects info on all the programs, for post-grad and student opportunities. It's online but password protected - your CSO should have the access info.
Most of the honors programs have deadlines in the fall - mostly September/early October - and the application process varies a little by agency (some use USAjobs, some just use email, etc.). You need to be either a rising 3L, clerking, on fellowship, or in a post-grad academic program to apply - that is, you can't have graduated and worked in a real job. (I also don't think you can have been unemployed since graduation.)
There are also programs for 2L summer, a few of which are paid - that info is in the AZ handbook, too. They don't usually lead to an offer for after graduation - it can happen in some agencies, but it's not very common.
