Not OP, but why? I have a CB with them next week in NY. Does this apply to the firm across the board?

Latham by a mile. There's no market where JD would be a better pick over Latham, and PH LA vs Latham LA isn't even a debate (even though in some other markets you could find reason to at least strongly consider either option)

Not OP either, but I have a friend going to the LA office. Curious why you might say this.anonymous2012 wrote:I would just avoid Paul Hastings like the plague.Anonymous User wrote:Which is the best? What have you heard?

Disregard this. Their LA office does solid work and it seems like a really awesome place to work culturally, relative to other firms of course.anonymous2012 wrote:I would just avoid Paul Hastings like the plague.Anonymous User wrote:Which is the best? What have you heard?

3 in NYC last year. It's not a 50% offer rate or anything crazy but they clearly don't intend to offer all of their summers. These classes aren't that big.Anonymous User wrote:Only 1 in their LA office, DC office and NY office IIRCTiago Splitter wrote:Paul Hastings routinely no-offers.
ETA: 58/70 firmwide last summer

All summers in the NYC office this year got offers. No idea about LA, but they don't intend to no-offer -- they just are not as forgiving as other firms if you act out at events or do sloppy work.Tiago Splitter wrote:3 in NYC last year. FWIW, my friend summered at Paul Hastings LA in the Employment Dept. and hated it. Obviously big law work is not always sunshine and rainbows, but she described PH-LA as having serious employee morale issues. It could have just been that department, but the firm as a whole doesn't have the best reputation in LA. I would go with JD or Latham over PH-LA in a heartbeat.

i'd rather work for a firm that's more forgiving at the summer stage of "sloppy work" or "acting out." as a summer who knows nothing my work product will be objectively shitty and riddled with mistakes, so even if my work product is decent relative to other summers, the firm could just use that as an excuse to no-offer, even if the reason for no-offering is unrelated.
