Callback Turnaround? Hollingsworth, Venable, Wiley, etc

Post by henry flower » Wed Aug 14, 2013 7:43 am

GULC student doing EIW here. For those who have done this before, do you have any idea how quickly these firms will give you a CB and what the method is (snail mail, email, phone)? My favorites have mostly been the small-ish firms, but there are a few big ones that I liked as well. All DC. Thanks!:

1. Hollingsworth
2. Venable
3. Wiley Rein
4. Hogan
5. Willkie
6. Orrick
7. Brown Rudnick
8. Sidley

Wiley Rein was one of the faster firms in DC last year. I got mines the next day by phone last year.

Not at GULC, but at my non-DC T14 (CBs at all three by phone): Wiley Rein made next day CBs. But at my CB they said they expected offer decisions to take two weeks. Willkie's DC office made next day callbacks too. hogan lovells took a few days.

I had in-office screening interviews at both Hollingsworth and Venable (didn't win an interview slot during GULC EIW). Hollingsworth said that they are waiting to finish all of the screening interviews before extending callbacks, which should be by the end of this week. Venable said that the recruiting team meets weekly and to expect to hear either way within a week.

Nice job getting the in-office screeners! Thanks for the helpful info. I was getting antsy about Hollingsworth but what you said makes me slightly less antsy. They were pretty much my favorite: I would likely pick them over some more "prestigious" firms because of the nice mix of people, the practice area, and the ability to do important things right off the bat. They also had a 5-year partner, which is crazy and fantastic, and shows that hard work can pay off.

As for me, I just got my ding from Venable today, which honestly came as quite a surprise. I felt like that interview went really well and the fit would have been great for some of the same reasons I like Hollingsworth so much. Still have some good options on the table, so trying to remain positive. Wish I was better at EIW but what can you do? I've tried my best!
