NYU 3.53 w/ ties to SoCal but wanting SF
I posted a while back but was hoping I could get some more substantive advice if possible. I have very strong LA ties but none to SF, however I'd much rather go to SF/NorCal in general. What are my chances and how should I proceed? I don't want to ruin my bidlist by bidding on a bunch of SF firms that won't take me for lack of ties, and some firms like Paul Hastings will only let you bid on SoCal or NorCal, not both. I've got an interesting resume and true Mandarin fluency but no IP or science background.

I think you'll be fine bidding on SF, as long as you have some SoCal backup options. SoCal and NorCal are pretty close. Most SAs I meet here in SF/SV are not from the area.
