2013 Vault/MCCA Legal Diversity Career Fair
Has anyone attended this as a 3L and had any success? I struck out last year at OCI and ended up doing a government internship this summer instead. I know every year is different, just wondering if anyone can comment on their experience.

Isn't it worthless for 2Ls? I don't have the time to search the forum but I think I remember reading it was. If that's the case, it's probably worthless for 3Ls. From looking at other diversity fairs though (I'm in a similar position) the pickings are not good. The most I've seen is 4 employers looking for 3Ls.

3L hiring is need-based. This means you really can't gauge what is going to happen. Commonly, firms will have one or two spots created by new needs, or failed summers. They will sometimes post these positions on their websites. Sometimes, these are big shifts, like when NYC M&A recovered quickly than everyone thought and firms like Kirkland took on 20 extra entry-levels. More often, they first turn to current attorneys, who will submit resumes of people they would like to recommend (especially if this is practice-group specific). If this approach fails, they may open it up to everyone. However, the postings you see are like "looking for medical industry corporate attorney-- 2 years of corporate medical industry experience required." Thereafter, there is basically post-bar hiring.

Re: 2013 Vault/MCCA Legal Diversity Career Fair
I was told this was one of the better ones for 2Ls. But the people that do well here often would do well at OCI so it's really not that beneficial. This fair takes place in early August and I know firms usually asses their 3L need later in the summer. I guess this may also be why only a handful of employers come looking for 3Ls. I do recall reading at least one or two 3ls that at least got callbacks from this. I've already started networking, etc, just was curious about this. Especially since I am in DC for the summer interning, so I wouldn't have to travel far to attend.Anonymous User wrote:Isn't it worthless for 2Ls? Where do you go to check for preselects? So far I've only been able to upload my resume and fill out registration info.

baker botts emailed theirs out.. i think that is the only way we'll be hearing from the firms. but, based on last years thread they were giving out the invites over a span of a few weeks. i'm guessing baker botts is the first.Anonymous User wrote:Where do you go to check for preselects? Interviewed at this fair as a 3L. Interview was useless, frankly. Felt like I left a good impression with the interviewer, and he/she was very upbeat when I followed up, but never got a CB. I hope you guys are luckier than me.

I'm a 3L and I got one today from a regional firm that often hires from my regional school.

I am also a 3L who got one today from a regional firm. Not sure if they recruit at my school.

One would assume DC? Got one but there's no specification of office in the email or on the fair website.Anonymous User wrote:got this too. any idea which offices they're recruiting for?Anonymous User wrote:Latham as well today.

how come no one is talking about this? 4 screeners today. 2 of them i'm pretty sure i have no chance at, so i'm not sure why i was pre-selected. the cynical side of me thinks it's so the firm can report they interviewed more minorities. the other 2 interviews i feel pretty good about! good luck everyone.

Because there is nothing really to report until the callback stage?

Went today. Not sure how serious the firms are about hiring people. But I had one screener. Sounded pretty promising. But definitely not holding my breath. If anyone gets callbacks and or offers, please post here.
