When applying to corporate transactional jobs, what are examples of good types of documents to use for writing samples? All I have is an appellate advocacy brief and I assume that wouldn't be looked at as useful...

Are you a rising 2L doing OCI? If so, most firms actually don't ask for writing samples. Even the few ones that do probably don't care if it's a fake appellate brief for your LRW class. If you don't like it, try to find a project over the summer that can produce a document you like better.

If you're not a rising 2L then you have bigger problems.

Corporate firms rarely look at writing samples, at least in major markets.

Well I'm in Chicago and have applied to transactional firms and many of them ask for writing samples.
