How bad is document review?

Post by SoberHobo » Wed Mar 27, 2013 5:28 pm

I've seen wages for temp jobs of up to $40 an hour. Who here has experience? These are tough times, so I'm thinking about wandering around the country, job to job doing doc review. It'll be like "Of Mice and Men".... only with lawyers. I'll take a Cooley grad with me, promise him a rabbit someday. I mean, doc review can't be any worse than farm labor, right?

To anyone considering this path: I recommend that you view with skepticism any pro-doc-review advice from your CSO.

Being a day laborer would be better since you know the job is yours until the end of the season/harvest/whatever. The doc review job you traveled all the way across the country for could dry up the day you get there because the case settled.

doc review is both stressful and boring at the same time:

boring: same review over and over again of dry documents
stressful: if you miss something, you can really miss a key fact that is very important. if the other side finds it....you are in trouble.

Do not know if doc review is bad, but it certainly is no fun. As you probably know, BL associates often handle doc review tasks all day long ... they are just paid a lot more.

It's not bad at all if you do it for a few weeks and then switch to something else. If you do if for a few months, you're going to get cranky. If you do it for a few years, I assume you'd go insane, but I don't know anyone who has tried this.

It's okay if you are fluent in Russian or Japanese.
