Basically OCI for public interest employers. It's the biggest of its kind in the country. Students from all the NYC schools attend but NYU students get the bulk of the interviews.ajax adonis wrote:What is the NYU Public Interest Fair exactly? JW.

Re: NYU Public Interest Fair 2013
I only applied to one organization and was named an "alternate." Does anyone know how this works? If someone with an interview cancels, is one of the alternates automatically scheduled by a computer/administrator or do you have to be on your game constantly check the site to sign up if/when a spot becomes available? There's not much info on the Fair website about how this process works.

I got 2/2. Is this enough or should I apply to more places?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is automatic. I think the alternates are ranked as well. You just have to keeping your account to see if you became scheduled.Anonymous User wrote:I only applied to one organization and was named an "alternate." Does anyone know how this works? Enough for what? You can't apply to more employers through the NYU Fair, but I would not count on those options as your only options for the summer.pastapplicant wrote:I got 2/2. Is this enough or should I apply to more places?

I got 5 interviews and 2 backups. I am still applying to other employers since no way of knowing if any of these will come through. They obviously interview far more people than they can hire - even if it is free help....

Primarily summer jobs, I think there are some places interviewing for permanent jobs but it's mostly 1Ls and 2Ls attending.ajax adonis wrote:Ah, are these permanent positions or just summer stuff?dixiecupdrinking wrote:Basically OCI for public interest employers. It is automatic. I've already been moved from alternate -> scheduled for one interview, and there was no notification. just showed up.Anonymous User wrote:I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is automatic. Don't be disheartened if you didn't get a lot of interviews. Go network and make a positive impression with everyone there. I got an interview this way for a really competitive internship. Also talk to 2Ls/3Ls who have interned there before to see what they look for. Good luck.

Re: NYU Public Interest Fair 2013
As a current NYU 2L, the best advice I can give is do not rely on the interviews from the PILC fair to get you a job. I ended up with like 2 interviews. Both of my interviewees were half asleep from having done a million interviews in a row and I never heard anything back from them.
That said, the "table talk" thing that they have in the big room with all the organizations having people there is pretty useful, and ended up leading to my summer internship. You can find out about a lot of places that you might have missed in your online search. I fucking hate networking, schmoozing, etc. but the process of finding a 1L summer internship is not really as institutionalized as the 2L stuff is, so you kind of have to put yourself out there
