Can I put my scholarship on my resume?
I'm a 1L. The scholarship I received to go to my school is not a named one (like Rubenstein) and not a full-ride, but still pretty substantial (40k per year). Is it okay to put this on my resume? And if so, how exactly would I go about wording it?

Yes. "Received/Awarded a merit scholarship" covering 80% of tuition

How do you phrase it if a scholarship is a set amount per year that isn't a nice even percentage of tuition (and the percentage will change as tuition rises anyway)?

Put the set amount or the percentage by rounding based on the first-year. No one is really going to ask about the details of the scholarship. Don't over think this.

I only noted the name of the scholarship. If someone was interested enough in seeing what it entails, they could (easily found on the net, covering 2/3 of tuition and awarded after enrolling). I believe it looks impressive (but that’s just me).

The point of this thread is asking about scholarships that don't have names. Obviously if it has a name, that's the most elegant way to list it.Skye wrote:I only noted the name of the scholarship. No one is going to waste their time googling the details of the scholarship. You should put the details.Skye wrote:I only noted the name of the scholarship. Ask career services. It would rub me the wrong way to see someones (unnamed) scholarship on their resume.

I recommend including the rounded dollar amount, regardless of what Career Services might say.

For the most part all non-need based scholarships are named in some way (normally after a class or an alumni). I don't think putting a non-merit scholarship on a resume is a good idea.
If you look at your term bill, or ask financial aid, they will tell you where exactly the money comes from.
I put my UG scholarships on resumes before LS. One was the Class of 19xx scholarships and one was labeled as a Fellowship, which in my head sounds better.
I doubt it made any difference, and I omitted them for my legal job search.

Mine says "NU Law School Scholarship." Could be $5 for all employers know.SemperLegal wrote:For the most part all non-need based scholarships are named in some way (normally after a class or an alumni). I don't think putting a non-merit scholarship on a resume is a good idea.

Re: Can I put my scholarship on my resume?
I say just list the generic scholarship and the percentage it covers. It's GOT to be called SOMETHING, find out. Like:
"Merit Scholarship Recipient (75% of Tuition)"
If it is only a set amount of cash......don't list the amount of cash. I don't know, that seems tacky. Just say "Partial" scholarship or something.
