Depends on school, grades, ties, previous work experience, and type of minority.

top 20, ethnicity = minority that is not URM, work experience = nothing amazing (paralegal, unrelated service)
the only "diversity" really is that im a minority that generally does not get the typical "boost"
how important are grades at that point?

You Asian or Indian? Might as well apply even though you're not really the minority they're looking for.Anonymous User wrote:top 20, ethnicity = minority that is not URM, work experience = nothing amazing (paralegal, unrelated service)

Depends on a lot of factors. Anecdotally I can say you are probably more likely to get something out of a diversity program if you're female and attractive. Most of the dudes who were Asian or Indian seemed to get shot down, but female + asian/indian checks two boxes. Being attractive is just helpful any way you look at it.
