House of Representatives Legislative Counsel
For my 2L summer, I am considering a split. I have already accepted a DOJ SLIP position. How does the US House of Representatives Office of the Legislative Counsel look in terms of prestige? I don't know what type of law I want to go into, I just know that I want to be in government and not at a firm. Thanks in advance!

It's not prestigious. Also it's more like a JD preferred job than an attorney position, but some people like that. I probably wouldn't go through the effort to split unless you'd consider a job like that permanently.

Stop worrying about "most prestigious" and do what interests you.
You've already got DOJ SLIP. Your resume is going to look good no matter which of these other things you do, and you're not going to get an internship with the Office of White House Counsel, so just pick the one you want to try the most, and enjoy it.

They can't help it. Resume padding is taught to them before initial clothing issue.I'm a military intelligence officer, so I already have one.

Seriously, the nerve of those military officers... Especially when they're the ONLY ONES in law school who care about trying to look good for post-law school employment.SemperLegal wrote:vanwinkle wrote:Stop worrying about "most prestigious" and do what interests you.

I would not do a defense summer then. You already have the biggest things that will give (a security clearance for private employees and dedication to the military for JAG). I would do the House LC unless you get something better.Anonymous User wrote:I'm a military intelligence officer, so I already have one.LawIdiot86 wrote:Do you get a security clearance? Who do you contact about House internships? I've seen the general email but I think that's too bogged down to be of any use for me.

Has anyone who's interviewed here heard back yet? Anyone have a sense of the timing from years past?
