How late/ screwed am I?

Post by Anonymous User » Wed Nov 14, 2012 4:51 pm

Hey everyone - I'm a 2L, top 20%, LR at a t-40 school. I accepted an offer for 6 weeks with mid-size corp law firm in a small market because I thought I had another 6 locked up at a firm in my hometown, but my "sure thing" turned out to not be, and all of my leads have fallen through. This semester has turned into a nightmare, so I haven't been able to getting more resumes out there, but I know I need to lock something up for the 2nd 6 weeks. I am interested in mid-law corp/ securities/ business lit firms - mostly in the southeast except I would go to DC/ SF/ Chi/ NY in a heartbeat. Have I managed to screw myself or can someone recommend a course of action? Thanks

I'd say try to get an offer out of your 6 weeks or ask them for more because while there are a few big law firms still hiring, they will probably want the full 10-12 weeks unless its a TX firm where they might split... I don't think any of those are hiring any more though, well I did hear Baker Botts called back someone 2-3 weeks ago...

Does the firm give out full time offers to SAs? If so, what %? If it is decent, I might ask them to extend it to 10 weeks and hope that you get an offer.
