Success of people targeting Florida BigLaw?
Interested in how people targeting Florida (tampa or so. fla) biglaw have done. I know one person with a Foley & Lardner tampa offer. Other people I know targeting FL aren't doing so hot, few CBs, no offers. Anybody out there doing well?

Florida is mad, mad competitive. Shoot for some not as large firms that are likely to fly under the radar of T 14ers and UF 10% + LR in addition to larger firms (assuming u don't fall into those categories) or else you're gonna have a bad time

Re: Success of people targeting Florida BigLaw?
I had a few CBs, no offers from Tampa. Only 1 formal rejection so far, but I think the other ones just forgot I existed. I interviewed with GT in early July, and they said they had already received 200 resumes for mass mail at that point and hadn't even decided if they were going to have a summer program yet.
I recently mass mailed the rest of FL, but I haven't gotten any bites yet. Focused on DC/NYC for OCI and earlier mass mailing.

South Florida Biglaw seems to still suck. During OCI Greenberg, Holland & Knight, Bilzin, and Gunster made it clear that they were only taking four or five SA each.

Correct. FL Biglaw is wild dicey. Lol at median at Duke/Vandy guaranteeing anything. I went on multiple callbacks with UF/FSU kids in the top 10 people (not percent) of their class. Everyone else was top 5-10% at a T20-30 or Top 25%+ at a T10.gdane wrote:South Florida Biglaw seems to still suck. Very competitive and very much not a guaranteed offer. I can't speak particularly to SF biglaw though -- not my turf.

Sorry to hear that!I guess they weren't kidding when they said the FL market is insanely tough to crack.
Meh, thanks.
Yes I'm a FL resident, grew up in FL and spent my summer there.

Re: Success of people targeting Florida BigLaw?
Go back after one year of employment at any firm in FL. Graduated with a girl from UF (Levin) who got a job with Akerman Senterfitt after spending one year at a non-prestigious midlaw firm. Granted, this is AS's WPB office, but she had graduated with no honors, wasn't on a real journal, no moot court, etc. The experience was enough to get her foot in the door after some time.
I know this isn't the most helpful information, as a lot of students want to graduate and go right into biglaw, but I just wanted to mention that you can make it there down the line in the FL market. I don't know a whole lot of other places where this holds true, so it's pretty cool.

I'm from UF and the kids interviewing at FL biglaw here, myself included, have done just fine. Many in the top 10-15% have multiple offers from Florida big law firms. A lot of those kids haven't accepted yet so just wait it out. As soon as people start responding to offers, there should be more movement.

Re: Success of people targeting Florida BigLaw?
I don't think there are enough SAs spot in the whole state of Florida for the top 10-15% of UF to have an SA gig (referring to Big Law firms of course).Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Interested in how people targeting Florida (tampa or so. fla) biglaw have done.
