Callback with just associates?
Have a callback scheduled next week with just associates.
Anybody think this is weird or a bad sign?

Re: Callback with just associates?
I had a similar experience with a callback at a mid sized law firm. The screener was with a partner and associate. But my callback was with two "senior" associates. Most of the partners were out of the office that day. I still am waiting on my results but I do feel like my odds aren't that great because a partners recommendation may have more weight than an associates.

Why would they bother to bring you in if they wanted to just ding you? Just go into the CB and kill it.

I had a cb with all associates. Offer.
Take it as seriously as any cb. Who interviews you is often a function of who is available and who can be trusted with assessing the fit of a candidate. Associates are perfectly adequate for the job and generally much more available.

It probably just means that the partners that usually conduct interviews are busy during your scheduled interview time. Don't sweat it. On the upside, younger associates are in a better position to give you a more realistic perspective of what working at the firm is actually like. On my CBs, I felt more comfortable asking associates questions regarding firm culture, hours, availability of work, etc. than partners and I they had no qualms about answering my questions honestly. Your CB should provide you with a good opportunity to determine whether you actually want to work at that firm or not.

I also had a call-back with all associates/senior associates. Offer. Some firms do this by design. Partners know that recruits are more likely to make connections with associates, which increases offer/acceptance ratio. Good luck!
