Would a partner call you to turn you down?
I'm sitting in class and got a missed call. I stepped out for a second to listen to the voicemail and it was a partner. They said to call them back when I get a chance. Class isn't over for a while and I freaking out a little. Good news or bad?

Yes, it happens more often than most might think. That said, it generally means that particular partner really liked you--which doesn't really make the rejection any less bitter.

A number of people have reported phone rejections. It's not the norm, but don't get your hopes up for an offer if they didn't make it in the message.

I got a call exactly like this ("hi this is the hiring partner from FIRM, call me back") and it was a rejection.

Until you return the call, just pray that he's calling to schedule your drug test - upon which your offer is contingent.

Haven't all of the OPs of these threads gotten a rejection so far?
