Have offers from both a general practice biglaw firm and a boutique in the same market (DC). Boutique specializes in the type of work I want to do, and is well respected for it. GP firm also has this practice, but it's one of many. Hours seem to be about the same, but there's less of a face-time requirement at the boutique.
My concern is: is it stupid to specialize/pigeonhole so early in one's career? Or is it stupid to pass up something now I'd probably like to lateral to in a few years anyway?

I believe it depends on the practice. IP, immigration, appellate lit, healthcare, bankruptcy and consumer finance all seem like good boutique specialties.
